Quinoa, or keen-WAH as properly pronounced, ought to be a staple within just about anyone’s diet. These little gems are gluten free, and pack in far more nutrients than brown rice or whole grain pastas, and can be served hot or cold. Not to mention, it is highly versatile. Many who had had quinoa would associate it as a base for dinner in place of rice. But, it can be used within several other dishes. While I do enjoy it mixed with my many dinner stir-fries, it can also go fantastic within a salad to add some carbohydrates to your meal (a far better choice in place of that slice of garlic bread).
If yo u want to get a little more creative with it, you can ditch the veggies and mix in fruit. Check out my new favorite mid-morning snack.
Here we have 1/2 cup quinoa, 1/4 cup assorted fruit, and 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla whey protein. I use the whey to add a creamy vanilla flavor, but take caution on how much you use, because if you use too much it will clump up instead of blending/dissolving within the fruit juices. From here, just toss it in a to-go container and either store it in your fridge for, or take it along with you. I like to try and have this about 1/2 hour before I work-out to help get me that boost of energy to get my through my routine. PLEASE NOTE: You definitely do not have to stick with the fruit I used in this one. Just about any will do; try out apricots, peaches, pineapple, bananas, grapes, apples, ect. Mix and match any combination that suits your fancy 🙂
I have also found an adoration for these little StayFit containers. They come in several different sizes, and many have freezable liquid within the container body or top (or both) which you can freeze to help keep your snack / meal nice and cool throughout the day.
Remember, it is very important to keep your blood sugar level throughout the day so you don’t have any crashes. Try out this snack to keep you going during your busy morning. Not only is it simple, but so delicious!
